    Ultionem Crystallis - Sign-Ups and OOC



    Long, long ago, the entire world was at war with a powerful sorcerer called Apollyon. By gaining control over the four crystals of light, he channeled the void into his destructive magic and plunged the entire planet into utter ruin, bringing the entirety of mankind to it’s knees with his infernal army. All hope was lost as he laid claim to the world and sat upon his throne in the depths of his hellish kingdom. However, legends of old came to life out of the east. The Four Warriors of Light arose and together they roused an army and laid waste to Apollyon's forces. In the end they battled fiercely with Apollyon himself, but their courage and strength ultimately failed them. Defeated and on the verge of death a mysterious form presented itself to each of the Warriros, bringing with it a dark crystal. The Four Warriors, with no other options, took the Dark Crystals into themselves and were imbued with unimaginable power. Risen with renewed energy, they attacked the Sorcerer again and after many hours the Warriors of Light gained the upper hand, but still they lacked the strength to end his life. With all options expended and their strength quickly depleting they summoned the remainder of their strength and used their very souls to seal Apollyon and his army for good...

    Though the threat was destroyed, all was not well in the world. The Warrior's souls were trapped forever halting the reincarnation process. No longer would the Warriors of Light rise to combat the darkness in the world. Decade after decade their legend was passed down to countless generations culminating every century on the centennial anniversary of their sacrifice, the entire world comes together and for one night celebrates and retells legends of old during the Crystal Requiem. They pray that the curse be broken and the reincarnation cycle renewed. They pray that they would never need the Warriors again.

    Twenty-two hundred years have passed and the world has all but forgotten the terrible tragedies of the past. What once was a holy gathering to pray for the souls of humanity's saviors has been defiled and turned into a worldwide carouse. Alcohol and whores on every corner of every city. Little does the population of Ivalice suspect, a new horror rises and a new chapter of darkness is being written. Rumors are spread among the people that the nations surrounding Acerrae Vatriae have fallen and that their nation will be next. Governments of the world have said otherwise, and for most all is well in the world. But an ominous cloud hangs over Acerrae Vatriae, today is the Crystal Requiem and few have made the journey from their homelands to the venerable capitol city of the world, Puerto de Oro...

    Assassin
    Stealth and Efficiency

    Hitmen hired by shady organizations in the underworld to perform tasks that nobody else has the guts to do. They are typically lean individuals who specialize in stealth tactics and employ them with deadly efficiency. Have the unique ability to temporarily blend into their surroundings for a stealth attack.

    Preferred Weapons: Short blades such as knives or daggers and projectiles such as throwing stars or dart guns.
    Preferred Attire: Light-Weight clothing and armor, typically dark in color.
    Magical Capabilities: Black Magic; Low-Level; Status Inducing spells only.




    Beastmaster
    Wild and Ferocious

    People who have spent their lives among dangerous beasts, learning how to communicate and tame them. They have a unique ability to foster a connection with nature that seemingly allows them to charm any wild creature into temporarily assisting them in battle.

    Preferred Weapons: Knives, whips, or their bare hands.
    Preferred Attire: Light-Weight clothing and armor, like fur.
    Magical Capabilities: None (typically)




    Berserker
    Brutal and Powerful

    Brutish inviduals who are unrivaled in physical ability, known as beast-like monsters who effortlessly and mercilessly crush their opponents. Typically very large and monstrously strong, once they begin an assault they won't stop until the threat is neutralized. Have the unique ability to temporarily forgo cognitive thought and attack in a frenzy while greatly increasing all physical stats.

    Preferred Weapons: Larger weapons such as warhammers, and battleaxes.
    Preferred Attire: Nearly anything from loin cloths to full bodied heavy armor.
    Magical Capabilities: None (typically)




    Black Mage
    Skilled and Focused

    Scholars of the dark arts, Black Mages have dedicated their lives to unlocking the secrets of black magic. They use potent status inducing spells to cripple their enemies before decimating them with powerful offensive spells. Some have even been capable of raising the dead as hellish servants to use in combat. They have the unique ability to dual-cast two spells at the same time.

    Preferred Weapons: Staves and daggers.
    Preferred Attire: Robes, light-weight clothing, and in rare cases light-weight armors.
    Magical Capabilities: Black Magic; Low, Mid, and High-Level spells.



    Brawler
    Determined and Dedicated

    Warriors who have trained their bodies for physical combat, they are, from their head to their feet, a walking weapon. Typically very well built and highly proficient in the martial arts. They possess the unique ability to sharpen their focus and pour all of their strength into a single strike that becomes dozens of times stronger than any other attack.

    Preferred Weapons: Fists, knuckles, gauntlets, and claws.
    Preferred Attire: Light-weight clothing, and in rare cases, light-weight armors.
    Magical Capabilities: None (typically)



    Lancer (Dragoon)
    Strong and Fearless

    Battle hardened warriors with a finesse for acrobatics, Lancers are almost always at the forefront of any battle. They usually come from military backgrounds, showing off a deadly efficiency with poled weapons. They have a unique ability to leap extremely high into the air, then vault back downwards and into an enemy with such tremendous force that they cause shockwaves to emanate from the landing.

    Preferred Weapons: Spears, glaives, and halberds.
    Preferred Attire: Light or Medium-weight armors.
    Magical Capabilities: Black Magic; Low-Level; Wind Element spells.




    Marksman
    Patient and Precise

    Well trained soldiers that specialize in long-distance combat. Marksmen are deadly firearms specialists who can put down the deadliest enemies with a single well-placed shot. Typically from military backgrounds, they tend to be great tacticians with broad leadership skills. They have a unique ability to lock-on to a target, giving them perfect accuracy and a much higher chance to kill with a single shot.

    Preferred Weapons: Muskets with optional bayonets, flintlock pistols, and explosives.
    Preferred Attire: Light-weight clothing but rarely armored.
    Magical Capabilities: None (typically)




    Paladin
    Courageous and Bold

    Honor bound warriors of old who's uncanny skill in combat has been revered for millennia. Unrivaled in in the art of swordplay, these men and women will fight fiercely, even to the death, for their convictions while vowing to protect those around them. They possess the unique ability to take weak blows without sustaining any damage when they're guarding an ally.

    Preferred Weapons: Bladed weapons of all kinds, especially long and greatswords.
    Preferred Attire: Heavy Armor and shields, often with attempts to them in near pristine condition.
    Magical Capabilities: White Magic; Low-Level spells




    Ranger
    Sleek and Agile

    Archers and hunters who have lived off the land all their lives. They understand nature in it's entirety, allowing them to easily track targets through the roughest terrain. Their skill with a bow and arrow is second to none, and they use it with terrifying speed and accuracy. They have the unique ability to fashion weapons, armor, and potions from the bounties of the world around them.

    Preferred Weapons: Bows, crossbows, and knives.
    Preferred Attire: Light-weight clothing and armor, particularly in earthy colors.
    Magical Capabilities: None (typically)




    Red Mage
    Versatility and Adaptability

    A jack-of-all-trades, but master of none. These generalists have taught themselves the basics of both physical and magical combat. They are not highly proficient in any one skill but have a wealth core knowledge in just about anything you could think of. This makes them extremely versatile in combat, allowing them to easily adapt to nearly any situation. Has the unique ability to mimic the ability of another Job Class that he's currently fighting beside.

    Preferred Weapons: Single-handed swords, staves, and crossbows. But can be found using just about anything.
    Preferred Attire: Light-Weight clothing and armor, with a penchant for the latest fashions.
    Magical Capabilities: White Magic; Black Magic; Low-Level spells.



    Rogue
    Cunning and Swift

    Shady individuals who tend to put their own personal gain above all else, unless the price is right. They tend to be well connected to the seedy organizations of the underworld, giving them an unparalleled intelligence network. They prefer quick and easy methods of dispatching of anyone who happens to be in their crosshairs through use of toxins to weaken their enemies before delivering a final blow. Has the unique ability to infuse their weapons with their status inducing magics and amplify their effects from low-level to mid-level spells.

    Preferred Weapons: Shortswords, knives, and flintlock pistols.
    Preferred Attire: Light-weight clothing and armor
    Magical Capabilities: Black Magic; Low-Level; Status inducing spells only.




    Summoner
    Wise and Deadly

    Few in number and more legend than fact, these mages have usually spent decades of their lives studying the various schools of magic and unlocking their secrets. These men and women have mastered the greatest form of magic, the skill to reach across dimensions and call for great beasts to fight in their stead. Has the unique ability to link with a summon they've called and mimic any Black of White magic they may have in their arsenal.

    Preferred Weapons: Staves
    Preferred Attire: Robes and other light-weight clothing.
    Magical Capabilities: Summoning magic.



    Thief
    Deceptive and Nimble

    Quick witted with a habit of picking up anything they find. Thieves look out for themselves and rarely give thought to anything beyond furthering their own wealth. They tend to avoid direct conflict and use deceptive means to plunder their target's riches. They have the unique ability to steal an item or piece of equipment off any enemy while attacking.

    Preferred Weapons: Knives and daggers.
    Preferred Attire: Light-weight clothing.
    Magical Capabilities: None (typically)



    Viking
    Immoral and Intimidating

    These people have absolutely no problem getting their hands dirty in nearly any task from murder to pillaging and all for their personal enjoyment. Rough and of large stature and monstrous strength, these brutes can cleave almost anything in two with the sling of a battle axe. They have the unique ability to temporarily become stronger and faster after each kill they make.

    Preferred Weapons: Axes and hammers of all varieties.
    Preferred Attire: Heavy-weight leather and fur armors.
    Magical Capabilities: None (typically)



    Warrior
    Vicious and Unrivaled

    Masters of combat, they dedicate themselves to fighting. Well built and absolutely deadly with a sword, these warriors are also versed in the basics of black magic. They put their training and need to become the strongest above all things and thrive in the heat of battle. They are unrivaled harbingers of war in every sense. They have the unique ability to combine their elemental black magics with their weapons to inflict magic damage along with physical damage.

    Preferred Weapons: Great Swords, Long Swords, and Short Swords.
    Preferred Attire: Any type of armor.
    Magical Capabilities: Black Magic; Low-Level spells.



    White Mage
    Pious and Loyal

    Priests and Priestesses of light who are usually generous and peaceful in nature. These mages are dedicated to supporting their friends and allies through their mastery of White Magic. But also have strong knowledge of how to deal with the undead. Has the unique ability to cast any of their available spells on multiple targets simultaneously.

    Preferred Weapons: Staves and Rods
    Preferred Attire: Robes, light-weight clothing, and in rare cases light-weight armor.
    Magical Capabilities: White Magic, Low, Mid, and High-Level spells.





    ^ Job Classes! Unless special circumstances call for it... I would prefer only one character per class! But if you absolutely do not want a character other than a specific class and it's taken, I can probably make an exception. Just want a little diversity, is all. Unique abilities will usually be activated in battle, they're not to be confused with limit breaks, desperation attacks, or anything similar. These abilities can be activated at any point in any fight. Though do try not to use them constantly, because that'd be boring and unrealistic.

    If the class is in RED that means someone else already has taken that Job.



    Magic in Ultionem Crystallis can be used by only a chosen few. Spells are stored away in ancient scrolls and usually kept hidden in libraries, accessible only by scholars of the highest social standings. However, every now and again explorers come across them, hidden away in caves or ruins. These spells are cast by a user via an incantation. These chants are written in an extinct language, and thus tend to be difficult to decipher and pronounce. However, when done correctly the user's soul is linked to the very forces of nature and enable the user to cast powerful magic.

    Below are a list of spells, a description of what the spell does, and the incantation required to cast it.

    Black Magic
    Black magic is the study of the dark arts. Spells from this class always focus on harming an enemy. From igniting the target in the fires of hell to inflicting deadly poisons, an enemy wielding black magic is not an enemy to take likely.

    Fire (Fire Element)
    Incantations and effect:
    Low - "Aduro!" - Shoots a single fireball at the target.

    Ice (Ice Element)
    Incantations and effect:
    Low - "Duratus!" - Pelts the enemy with dozens of small (think golf ball) hailstones.

    Bolt (Lightning Element)
    Incantations and effect:
    Low - "Fulmen!" - A strong static discharge from the user paralyzes the target for a few seconds and inflicts severe burns to the area hit.

    Water (Water Element)
    Incantations and effect:
    Low - "Immergo!" - A ball of water is launched at the enemy at a high speed, impacting hard then bursting and dowsing them in water.

    Aero (Wind Element)
    Incantations and effect:
    Low - "Ventus!" - A strong gust of blows towards the target, capable of easily toppling any creature up to the size of a large bear. (Think EF0 wind speeds)

    Poison(Status Inducing)
    Incantations and effect:
    Low - "Inficio!" - Propels a wispy cloud of gas at the target, inflicting a temporary neurotoxin. Movement is slowed as the toxin attacks the nerves, causing sharp pains in the limbs.

    Darkness(Status Inducing)
    Incantations and effect:
    Low - "Caeco!" - A dark cloud shoots towards the target, covering them entirely. The particles in the cloud stick to the target's eyes until their own tears wash it away, while inflicted their eyes burn and their vision becomes extremely blurry.

    Curse(Status Inducing)
    Incantations and effect:
    Low - "Inprecor!" - A dark curse attacks the target for 30 seconds, affecting their physical abilities slightly, becoming weaker and more susceptible to damage.




    White Magic
    White magic is the study of the holy arts, an exact opposite to black magic. Spells from this class primarily focus on supporting allies through protection, status buffs, and healing spells. However, there are a few known spells that damage or otherwise negatively affect the target.

    Cure(Regenerative)
    Incantations and effect:
    Low - "Recreo!" - The target feels slightly refreshed as they would after taking a short rest. Minor cuts and wounds are also magically closed.

    Protect(Protective)
    Incantations and effect:
    Low - "Contego!" - A translucent wall appears before the target, capable of taking two or three hits before shattering. Mystical properties of the spell allows anything to pass through from the inside, allowing the target to continue attacking.

    Haste(Status Inducing)
    Incantations and effect:
    Low - "Celero!" - The target becomes slightly faster for one minute, being able to move about 1.5 times the speed they normally do, they also experience time slower while under the effect, making their reactions much better.

    Dia(Holy Element)
    Incantations and effect:
    Low - "Inputresco!" - A holy attack that only affects the undead, greatly speeds up the degeneration process of the target's body, causing it's body to weaken considerably.




    Summoning
    Summoning magic is the art of calling beasts from another dimension to fight by your side. Summoned creatures appear from portals and stay until the battle is finished. Though most are relatively weak, they tend to be fairly capable in one way or another. Some summons are offensive while others are defensive. Incantations, even for low level creatures, tend to be fairly complex, lacking any distinction for high and low level spells. Instead, the complexity of the incantation determines the strength of the summon.

    Wyvern
    Incantation: "Draco in adjutorium meum intende quaeso proelio!"
    Effect: Calls forth a small dragon to fight for the caster. Usually being no more than two feet tall on all fours and four feet long from snout to tail. These guys still pack quite a punch, being able to breathe both ice and fire equivalent to low level black magic as well as possessing razor sharp teeth and claws.

    Moogle
    Incantation: "Ut mihi praeberetis auxilium Moogle invocabo in proelio!"
    Effect: Summons a friendly Moogle to assist in battle. These creatures have no offensive abilities but are very capable of defensive ones. They're able to cast Protect and Cure spells in rapid succession.

    Cactuar
    Incantation: "Cactuar peto inferre terrorem corda inimicis meis!"
    Effect: This spell summons a Cactuar to attack your enemies. These creatures move extremely fast, making them a tough enemy to even hit and when they are damaged, they tank it very well. Their plant like bodies soak up the damage, allowing them to take massive amounts of physical attacks before going down. Offensively, they're hellions, capable of launching hundreds of needles from their body at an enemy. Most of the time, not deadly, but extremely unpleasant.

    Ultros
    Incantation: "Knave silentium! Regium polypus coram te! Ignobilis populus amo vos nunquam vincere!"
    Effect: Calls forth a writhing mass of purple tentacles with many fangs, a species tentatively called Ultros after their progenitor. They are quite large and somewhat intelligent, fully capable of human speech and making terrible jokes. They attack with their tentacles and by throwing ink, which can blind a target.

(Summoners can only use Summons, Black Mages only black magic, White Mages only white magic, and Red Mages can use both black and white magics)





    This is the world of Ivalice.

    Acerrae Vatriae
    The largest nation in the world, both by landmass and by population. Thanks to it's perfect geographic location, the climate across most of the continent is warm and hospitable with people living in towns and cities spread across the entire landmass. It is also host to the Wind Crystal, which Crystallists (devout worshipers of the Crystals) attribute to the country's good weather. Thanks to these things, Acerrae Vatriae is commonly called the Nation of Ivalice and it's King the benevolent leader of the World.

    1. Puerto de Oro
    The Port of Gold, Puerto de Oro is the capitol city of Acerrae Vatriae. The city is vast, covering an area of just under 250 square miles and having a population of just over 15000. Puerto de Oro is the host of the Crystal Requiem, the centennial gathering from which once every 100 years, tens of thousands of people from all over Ivalice gather in this city to celebrate and pray for the return of the Warriors of Light and to wish good tidings to their fellow man and the world.

    Please be creative with your profile!!! Unless you're an artist and can draw your character, this will be the method by which other RPers describe your character.


    • Stick to the basic rules of Take Five
      • Watch your language... Try not to go overboard with the cursing and foul language.
      • No Racism, even within an in character post.
      • No spamming, or in this case, no posting back to back with yourself
      • Sexual encounters don't occur in Final Fantasy and anything too extreme is against the lounge's rules, so keep it at the puppy love stage.
    • No autoing of any kind. You're not to say what does and does not happen to another player's character.
    • ABSOLUTELY NO GODMODDING! This creates an annoying and/or unpleasant environment for the other RPers involved.
    • No Metagaming. Your character is not you and thusly does not have the same knowledge you have about current events and characters.
    • No Powergaming. You control your character(s) only. Not others.
    • No Powermodding. Use some realism here. If you're a normal human you're not dodging a bullet at point blank range.
    • Try to keep as little OOC talk out of the main thread as possible. This makes it less confusing for everyone else.
    Tips for creating your post


    A lot of people have some trouble creating their posts, they can make several amateur mistakes which make their posts hard to read or even boring. So here are a few tips you can keep in mind.
    • The length of your post is very important, a common misconception is that extremely long posts make for better role playing. This isn't entirely true, anything over two paragraphs can become tedious to read. So, keep your posts to a paragraph or two and you'll be fine. Please do have at least one paragraph per post. One or two sentences doesn't leave other posters much to work with in response to you.
    • Working with the above fact are details in your posts. Yes, details are important, it helps other RPers visualize what is happening. The trick is knowing what details are important. Below is a short example;
      • Derek slowly moved toward the bright red wood bench, it was a dark and rainy day. Absolutely miserable by anyone's standards. The wind howled and whipped through his soft brown hair.
      In this example, there are a few details that could be left out. The color and material the bench is made of isn't important, you're focusing on Derek himself, not the surroundings and the fact his hair is soft and brown isn't too important either because you're not focusing on his appearance, but rather the mood. The latter part, however could be different, pending on whether or not this is the character's first time being mentioned.
    • The wording in your post is also important, having a large vocabulary can certainly spice it up and show off your IQ, but using a lot of long and complicated words that others don't understand can have negative effects on your post.

His grey seafarers whiskers and tales of adventure on the high-seas once made many a maiden swoon. Now they're just downright terrifying. He ain't pretty. But hey...when you can swing an anchor like a dire flail, you don't need to be.

      He wears a pirate hat, armored boots and gloves, plain trousers with an ornate buckle, and no shirt. He wears plundered treasures as jewelry.

      Massive arms speak to a love of brawls, and a massive gut speaks to a love of meat and mead.

      His most distinguishing mark is a tattoo on his right bicep of a blood-red anthropomorphic fish flexing and smoking a cigar and showing off a mouth full of razor-sharp teeth.




      Magic:
      The Hellfish does not use magic, but has showcased natural resistance to many forms of it. Hit him with an ice spell and you may be greeted with a shout of "OYE! THAT'S COLD!" before getting lifted, chucked, and slammed into a wall.

      Weapons: The Hellfish carries a large anchor. He may swing if from its chain like a flail, or simply carry it as a bludgeoning club. He wears heavy metal gloves with bladed protrusions that allow him to punch and stab at the same time. He has guns, but they're more for show than anything else. He's a terrible shot, and prefers to get up close and dirty in a fight.
      Additional Info: He commands The Flying Hellfish and its scoundrel crew, and is not on good terms with the law. But robbing a few merchants blind doesn't make him evil, right? Behind that gruff exterior and ugly mug is an ally of unwavering loyalty...if you can earn his respect...

This is followed up by light melee attacks that deal small amounts of damage, that add up over time. The user becomes fatigued after usage, and cannot use any other skills until the fatigue goes away.
      Skill 3 - Meteor Bash: An full force melee attack that focuses on the users power into his upper body, as he jumps high up into the air, then descends onto his opponent fist first, to deliver a heavy blow to the receiver.       History for Skill 3 - Volt actually gained the variant for Meteor Bash by accident. It was due to part of his parentage being of the Black Mage, and from this, he has a small capability to use fire Magic, and unintentionally catching on fire while using the original Meteor Bash skill. He appears to be roaming the land in an attempt to be humbled, as he was (again, by his own admission) instructed, though his incredible arrogance and general joy of fighting tends to prove problematic to such attempts.

      Additional Info: Sasha was the result of a human female who was abducted to Cathae, a dimension ruled by summoned beasts. She was kept as both a pet and experiment, during which one such summon took her as a mate. When the woman gave birth, the citizens of Cathae rejected the newborn as an abomination of nature. The child was cast back into a wilderness on Ivalice and left for dead. Luckily, the child was found and raised by an elderly couple who took her in and raised her as a normal child. To this day it is only when Sasha dreams that she finds herself in Cathae, forever searching for her long lost mother.

      Wyvern
      Incantation: "Draco in adjutorium meum intende quaeso proelio!"
      Effect: Calls forth a small dragon to fight for the caster. Usually being no more than two feet tall on all fours and four feet long from snout to tail. These guys still pack quite a punch, being able to breathe both ice and fire equivalent to low level black magic as well as possessing razor sharp teeth and claws.




      Moogle
      Incantation: "Ut mihi praeberetis auxilium Moogle invocabo in proelio!"
      Effect: Summons a friendly Moogle to assist in battle. These creatures have no offensive abilities but are very capable of defensive ones. They're able to cast Protect and Cure spells in rapid succession.

        May I ask how faithful we have to be to the established lore as far as the story? I'd love accuracy and at least reasonable adherence, but it might be somewhat limiting -- and, admittedly, I've forgotten a lot and couldn't in good conscience participate if we're attempting for significant legitimacy here.

          This RP is only loosely based upon the older Final Fantasy games. I assure you, all lore the RPers will need to know will be presented in-RP. I'm creating my own... everything... from scratch here.

              Looks interesting, I might sign up. Minor question or two though.

              Whats the overall tech level like? You mentioned muskets and stuff. Just curious as I'd like to know when describing the background of my guy and making descriptions of the local area.

              Lastly, and I hate to get to power levels, whats our general ability range? From the line about not dodging bullets, I'm guessing we're not gonna be doing ridiculous stuff like FFVII top-tiers from the very start of the RP. Would Fire Emblem characters be a decent benchmark for Beginning of saga at least? I can provide some videos if you're not familiar with them.

                  For tech level, think 1700s or so. But it's also Final Fantasy, so it's not really that restrictive. I mean, no computers, modern assault rifles, cell phones, or things like that, obviously. But you don't have to stick to period confines, it's fantasy, after all. We might have muskets, but the world will also have airships and, maybe something like steam powered cars for the extremely wealthy. *shrugs*

                  As for power level, think street level starting out. Obviously the more physical characters like The Paladin, Warrior, Brawler, and Berserker classes would start out more physically strong than any normal person. And, for the Berserker specifically, I wouldn't be upset if he could like, pick up and throw a fully grown horse or something right off the bat. Just use your imagination. Our characters >will< power up through the RP via story enhancements, though. (I mean, it's FF, it wouldn't be right otherwise)

                    Alright! Cool stuff, I'm interested. I'll probably look into putting a character profile up tomorrow then. I remember the brief stint that was the FFVII based RP on MvC, writing was good there, so I look forward to seeing what kind of stuff you come up with.

                                    I'm in. I think i'll scrap my pirate RP due to lack of interest and turn Captain Hellfish into a Viking or a Berserker. Or use Captain Hellfish here and bump the pirate RP anyway...who the hell knows. AVAST YE SCURVY DOGS!!!!!!!

                                        Forgot to mention... I'd prefer only one character per class, unless we get an abundance of sign-ups or something.

                                        So try to get your profiles in as early as possible. I'll probably start striking through job classes as they're taken. My character is a ranger, but since I'm also the GM, if someone else wants to be a ranger that's ok, I can change my character to any other job class very easily. So first come first serve, more or less.
