As for AM -- I don't doubt it. Momoa is fantastic in virtually everything he's in.
The character herself was not preachy. (Discounting her real life shenanigans) The movie on the other hand went out of its way to showcase preachy moments.

Surfer was Thanos number one nemesis more or less. Their rivalry was dope.

Momoa is a fun actor. Hard to make him a lame character.

I suppose that's something in her favor, though using the character as a prop to indirectly push an agenda is still pretty bad. My guess is they thought they were being subtle or something like in the trailer where the "A Hero" caption faded to black and cut to "Her"... Which was about as subtle as a brick to the face.

Not only that, dude looks like the quintessential werewolf. Anyone who could somehow turn big homie ^ into a boring character deserves props for the sheer levels of incompetence they must exude.

      P.S. Fuck Drax.

I mean marvel has been off the deep end when it came to that. It’s infiltrating their films now. Nowhere near as bad as Supergirl though.

A lot of people didn’t like his Conan movie. I liked it definitely entertaining. Glad he finally hit a home run on the big screen.

What makes this even more disappointing is that the Arrowverse in general is entirely capable of promoting a progressive-without-being-priggish pragmatism. On the Flash, Joe is my favorite character after Thawne and Earth-2 Wells. That he's black instead of a ginger like he canonically "should" be is completely irrelevant. His blackness is merely one facet of his character rather than his whole identity like it was early James'. Interestingly, Jimmy is also canonically a ginger. I've always considered Irishmen the black people of white people... I guess that holds true in a literal sense now as well.

It will do wonders for his career, so we're likely to see him heading more blockbusters in future.

...only mainstream fantasy/sci-fi/hero setting thats even coming close to nailing "pragmatism" atm is Game of Throne.

I mean color definitely doesn't matter if the actor is good enough to own the role. Famous example is Nick Fury. How many actually remember Nick Fury used to be white lol. anyways arrowverse in general is not that bad in that department if you look at it overall. It's just supergirl. Supergirl takes everything progressive and turn it up to 100 with no chill. It's like watch tumblr the show.

Wrieters used to be clever about their inclusiveness. Go back read static or hell just watch the show. You will see progressive topics introduced without a need to be beat over the head with it. For one a show like static keeps it real and doesn't sugar coat the shit lol

I was trying to catch up on this thread without responding to any of the many posts that I took issue with until I got to the end to see where this roller-coaster ended. But I could not let this post slide.

You can't be serious Cid. Episode 8 had more holes in it than proper swiss cheese and the writing for the plot itself would have been done better by your own son. The only good thing was the special effects. and that's not saying much considering their budget, it would have actually been an affront to modern cinema if they didn't have amazing special effects with that many zeros.

On-Topic: Shob already hit it on the head with his statement that both this and WW were decent movies. Nothing amazing but not a garbage heap. But I'd argue WW was decent because the actress was amazing, and CM was decent because everything was okay but nothing stood out.. The problem with CM is that Captain Marvel is boring because she's basically just overpowered. It's the same reason I can't get interested in Superman.

white Nick is the black one's dad, and is now The Unseen and would've been a much better cameo in the MCU for david hasselhoff than what they gave him GOTG 2

Saw it today and it's about what I expected. It's fun, the plot is pretty thin though. Brie Larson isn't great in the role but I feel like that can change with a different director. (See Thor) There's no feminist agenda, obviously. As for Shob's comparison to Wonder Woman, he's pretty much spot on. CM doesn't take itself too seriously and has a great supporting cast in Sam Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn but lacks in plot and the main lead is weak. I'd say they're probably pretty close in quality. Both solid 6.5/10 or so, which is par for the course for the average MCU movie. It wouldn't break my top 10 marvel flicks but it's not going to be in the bottom five either. I'd say it's right there alongside Ant-Man 2, Cap America 1, and Doctor Strange.

Oneiros I know, it's funny that I even had to say it. But here we are, in a world where any female-backed movie is suddenly part of an anti-man agenda.

Again, no woman-hating cabal of "incels" boycotted WW (a female-led movie). Shob had no response for that either, interestingly enough.

Also, between Larson's thoughtless comments (replace "men" with "women" and imagine all the """justified""" outrage then) and Disney apparently padding their numbers, you can't be serious. Thankfully though, at least it's being panned by critics who couldn't be bought off, male and female alike, for trying to be WW and failing miserably, so there is some justice.
