And now it's official. Pelosi just formally announced that the House is opening an impeachment inquiry, fueled by the Ukraine whistleblower situation. Gonna be interesting to see how it goes.

Not to mention they'll force Republicans in the senate to defend something blatantly illegal and impeachable or to actually vote for impeachment of their party's president. Either way, it severely weakens the party and bolsters the democrats.

Of course, Pelosi is shrew as fuck. She's made a public showing stating that the White House needs to had over the transcripts from the phone call with the Ukranian President and has even had the attorney general (I think it was) state that it's within Congress' right to see the document, given the circumstances. And she's made it abundantly clear, without actually uttering the word impeachment, that she'll launch the inquiry just to see the transcript that the White House is hiding. She's a beast. She's making certain that she parades this transcript around as the reason an inquiry even needs to be launched so that, in the event it's a big nothingburger again, she has a defense to protect the party's moderates as much as possible against backlash from their constituents.

As much as I don't like Pelosi, she knows how to play the game.
So far, we've had two officially (Johnson, Clinton) and one unofficially (Nixon; he "resigned") impeached presidents. Not one was forcibly removed from office, like people are hoping will be the case with Trump. I mean, Republicans held a Senatorial majority when Johnson, a Democrat, held office and they chose to acquit him rather than making a mockery of the Oval Office. Republicans hold a majority now. After assuming control of the House earlier this year, Democrats can push for impeachment all they want, but the Republicans' Senate can easily defend an acquittal like they did Johnson's without losing much discernible power or influence in the process. Besides, given precedent, Pelosi's power play will ultimately be futile. We didn't get a long string of Democratic presidents after Nixon was "impeached," nor did we get a long string of Republican presidents after Clinton was. What a fucking farce (even for politics), lmfao.

The entire idea is to weaken the Republican's chances going into 2020. You got to keep in mind that Trump is the least popular president of all time. His only real support comes from the die-hard Republicans who make up about 35% of the electorate. The other 13-15% of his votes come from moderate-to-conservative independents that don't always vote down a party line. The impeachment inquiry is a power play to drag even more crimes out into the open in an effort to sway those independents to vote for the democrat. I don't think anybody is under the delusion that he's going to removed from office. But if it turns out to be undeniably true that he abused his authority by threatening a foreign leader to get dirt on Biden then that's going to go a long way towards hurting his chances at the presidency as well as hurting the republican senators and representatives in competitive races next year.

Like I said, Pelosi knows how to play the game.

Worth noting that Johnson, Clinton, and Nixon were all in their second terms when they were impeached or resigned under threat of imminent impeachment.

Trump going down as first president in history to face an impeachment inquiry in his first term, and run for reelection with that cloud of criminal misconduct + abuse of office hanging over his head

            Transcript is out now.

            https://www.cnn.com/2019/09/25/polit...all/index.html

Big thing to keep in mind while reading the transcript. Trump had already threatened to withhold aid from Ukraine before this call took place. If memory serves, he made the thread a day or two before actually speaking to the Ukrainian President.

What strikes me about the transcript is that Trump opened up by repeatedly saying how good the US had been for the Ukraine and then bluntly saying that it wasn't reciprocated. After that, he began requesting that they investigate Biden's son and the role Biden himself played.

So did he outright say "you investigate this matter or we're not helping you anymore"? Nah, he didn't. But does this play out like a 1950s style mobster shakedown? Yeah. It does.

Some news coming out of the Fox camp.

Fox insiders are leaking reports that top management is preparing to break away from Trump and is trying to figure out how to appeal to Trump's base while not supporting the President himself.

They're preparing for "life after the Trump presidency" lololol

Welcome to the world of pro-Trump facebook pages. The only ones where you'll find someone boasting that 18% of the people who openly support Trump won't actually commit to voting for him.

Trying to catch up on some of the stuff I missed this week.

Apparently Trump is no longer denying that he asked Ukraine to investigate Biden. Instead he's moved on to also asking that China investigate him as well... And on international TV no less. Mike Pence met with the Ukrainian President on September 1st and the House has requested he provide documents of his meeting. Am I missing anything?

Pence's official stance on this is "The American people have a right to know if the Bidens are up to something."

You missed that Pence was subpeonaed on friday, then today his laywer was.

Now white house sends a letter saying they won't comply with the "impeachment inquiry" <-- literally put in quotation marks.

Judge in Manhattan subpeonaed 8 years of Trump's tax returns.

Betsy Devso might face jail time for not complying with a Judge's order to disclose student loan documents. This goes back to a class action lawsuit from 2015 in which her department needs to comply. Also a couple other stuff but I'm too lazy to write out the details for her.

Also I'm too lazy to proof read this, spell check stuff and get links. Google it folks. :p

Saw that the White House was refusing to comply with a number of the House's subpoenas. I'm pretty sure that's illegal and it's just going to make it worse for Trump and his cohorts in the end.

"B-but it's not illegal if the president does it"

Funny you should mention that. Because it's actually his legitimate stance. His lawyers stated in a memo to Mueller that the president "cannot commit obstruction of justice" because he's the president. And his lawyers have also told court judges that states aren't legally allowed to subpoena his tax returns because, as President, he can't be targeted for investigation.

He's even calling the impeachment inquiry a "COUP" because, as president, he can't be investigated for his crimes because, as the "nation's chief law enforcement officer" he can't actually commit any crimes.
