The problem with limiting the power of the government is that it would be even more stale and restricted to react to the changes brought about by the times. In case of a crisis (financial, war, natural disaster, etc.) the US citizens need representatives that can take swift action to minimize the damages that might follow.

The problem isn't the power the politicians have, the problem is with the media and their relation with politicians. The job of a juror is to inform the people of the corruption present in politics, so that they can elect good representatives. But instead we see a media conglomerate that favors one party over the other, that does it best to skew information if not outright lie.

If the jurors did a good job informing the people, the people would make better choices, and the parties would reform to fit the climate.

Just read the transcript of the SOTU (the video’s a slog).

Decent SOTU, honestly, if only for the general optimism and positive attitude. Ending bits were the best part (“We must choose whether we are defined by our differences — or whether we dare to transcend them.” Racial identity Politics = ROASTED, baby...!)

If only Trump could talk like this (with some tweaks) more often.

Bruh, if you think I’m taking an hour to go through a speech when a third to a half of it is clapping (even if only one aisle is doing it), even though I can just read it in a third of the total time without the pauses, you’re wrong, lol.

So it is ok for a private citizen who is running for a government position to:

                        A) Get funded and paid by big cooperations.
                        B) Pay hush money to other people who have damaging information on them
                        C) Pay off others to further support this citizen's bid for a government office.

Then once said private citizen is government official they can:

                        A) Write new laws, push to change old laws, influence other laws all to support the very big cooperations that paid for that once private citizen's campaign.
                        B) Buy stock in these companies while still being able to push for new laws and changes in law that benefits these companies which in turn gives them a huge return in their investment.

You are telling me you are entirely ok with this? Not just for republicans but also crazy radical left wing democrats like AOC, Hilary, Obama and others? You are ok with them having this much freedom of power because... it stales their reaction to crises like war, natural disaster, trade war, etc? It is not like they are poor either and need stock options. They are making $174,000 a year or more depending on their position.

So I'm seeing news about Trump voters who did their refunds and find out they are getting less back or even worse having to pay more in taxes. This article here contains the most tweets on it: https://www.alternet.org/2019/02/tru...i-trusted-you/

Anyone hear anything from your neck of the woods and those around you?

EDIT: Just cause it felt right to add.

I like her well enough. She prides herself on her bipartisanship, but at the same time I don't think she has much of a shot at winning. She has basically no respect among the right and I haven't heard a ton of support for her among Dems.

So is she a moderate dem, then? If so, you're probably right that she doesn't have much of a chance.

                                      Yeah, she's pretty moderate.

Which sucks, because that seems to be the way out of the hole we dug ourselves into here, but what're you gonna do?

I wouldn't say we need a moderate. Moderate democrats tend to be corporate democrats.
