"Chan" originally comes from the word "orimuchan" which means "to strike/to smite". Back in ancient Japan the legendary samurai Dao-Chan saved his village from a tsunami by cleaving it in half with his katana and parted the water away from his village. So to honor him his people created the title of "Chan" as a sign of a person held in high respect/honor. One of Dao-Chan's most famous quotes was "Actually it's Chun but thanks anyway".

It's an honorific used to address girls, not a last name.
